COTS to fully custom

Our capabilities span system design, component manufacturing, and software development: from off-the-shelf hardware that ships in weeks to fully custom solutions engineered around your exact requirements.

COTS

Off-the-shelf

Our commercial-off-the-shelf solutions have been designed to cover a wide range of applications. We currently offer COTS motor controllers, power & communications distribution hubs, and E-Stop / flight termination systems. Ready to ship.

Typical delivery
Stock to 4 weeks
MOTS

Modified off-the-shelf

MOTS solutions share the same basic architecture as the COTS product they are based on. Modifications typically address different voltage ranges, power output, thermal dissipation, or custom enclosures for specific volume constraints.

Typical delivery
8–12 weeks
Custom

Fully custom

When MOTS isn't sufficient, we work closely with customers to create fully customized solutions. Custom products are often highly application-specific and frequently combine the capabilities of two or more COTS offerings into a single integrated unit.

What we engineer

01

Embedded Software

Accelerate your time to market by leveraging Allocortech's existing frameworks, integrations, and staff to create new drivers, protocol handlers, state machines, and mission executives.

02

Electronics

Increase flexibility by working closely with Allocortech to specify new or repackaged compute, sensing, actuation, or electromechanical devices that are robust, fault-tolerant, and environmentally qualified.

03

Electric Powertrains

Release your vehicle's potential by utilizing Allocortech's experience in creating custom battery management, power conversion, power generation, and motor control devices.

04

Industry-Specific Design

Understand the tradeoffs in redundancy strategies and safety domain partitioning through design and review sessions with Allocortech's in-house experts. We help develop requirements to identify hardware and software solutions.

05

Verification & Validation

Unlock good testing practices by consulting with Allocortech about requirements and test case development, utilizing our software test toolchain, and having us create hardware test platforms.

American made, from board to box

All Allocortech products contain US-assembled printed circuit boards. Final assembly, test, and qualification are performed in Waynesboro, Virginia. We have a robust export process for international customers compliant with ITAR and EAR requirements.

Common questions

Can you mix and match or combine existing solutions?
Yes. We consider our intellectual property library and in-house knowledge to be our strongest assets. Most custom programs begin with existing Allocortech architectures as a foundation.
What if I need different communications protocols or voltage levels?
For prototype purposes, we can work with you to determine if there are in-harness or adapter solutions. For production programs, modified-off-the-shelf variants with different voltage or protocol configurations are our most common MOTS engagement.
Can I use Allocortech hardware with other vendors' systems?
Allocortech prides itself on having an open software development kit (SDK) that allows you to customize software to your needs. Our products are designed to be interoperable with industry-standard protocols (CAN 2.0, CAN-FD, RS-485, Ethernet).
Can you repackage a product for my specific form factor?
Yes. Repackaging and re-connectorizing are among our most common MOTS modifications. We also have experience weatherizing solutions by repackaging with environmental connectors and ruggedized enclosures.
Who owns the IP for custom work?
Allocortech offers both a work-for-hire arrangement (customer owns developed IP) and a shared license model where we negotiate reduced costs for including new modules into our SDK. The right model depends on the program.
Are you on a path to DO-178C or DO-160 certification?
Allocortech's roadmap includes formal certification to DO-160 and DO-178C standards. The Comet FTS is already formally qualified to DO-160G. Other products are designed to DO-160G standards with qualification testing available on request.
Is your hardware American made?
Yes. Allocortech products contain US-assembled printed circuit boards and all final assembly and testing is performed in Waynesboro, Virginia.
Do you work with international customers?
Yes. We have several international customers and have developed a robust export process compliant with ITAR and EAR requirements.
What does the engagement process look like?
For new customers, we provide a limited specification review free of charge to identify the right solution tier (COTS, MOTS, or custom). For first production orders, we typically include a small support contract to support integration activities.
